7. Working Time Regulations
Rest Breaks
If an employee or worker works more than six hours in a day, they are entitled to a rest break of no less than 20 minutes, to be taken during working time, not at the beginning or end of a shift. This break does not have to be paid. Rest breaks can also be modified by collective or workforce agreements (see below).
Daily Rest
An adult worker is entitled to a rest period of no less than 11 consecutive hours in every 24 hours (although not necessarily on the same day). An employer can modify this in special cases or if there is a collective or workforce agreement by providing an equivalent period of compensatory rest. Government guidelines suggest that this should be provided within a couple of weeks of the time worked.
